Children, who grow up in decent and affordable housing are less often sick. Substandard and badly maintained housing with drafts. moisture, molds and pests make kids sick: asthma, bronchitis, colds, gastroenteritis. Subsequently they are more often absent from school and do not do well educationally. They don't do well socially and are often subjected to violence, both outside in the neighborhood and at home as victims or witnesses of domestic violence. As substandard housing is often older, problem with lead paint are prevalent and elevated lead levels are common in children in substandard housing. Therefore, it is morally, ethically and economicaly unacceptable that children grow up in-sub standard housing. You can now follow us on Facebook by clicking here |
